Join Youth & Family Services for another session of Project VAN, aka Volunteers Around Needham this July and August!
Volunteers Around Needham invites students entering grades 7-12 to participate in single-day community service projects in areas that interest them. Students will earn 3 or more hours of community service credit for their participation and are welcomed to sign up for one or multiple days throughout the Summer!
*Please note - if a certain day is full, you will have the option to add your name to the waitlist. We will notify you prior to the program date if a spot becomes available.
Temple Beth Shalom
Tuesday, July 8th
9am - 12pm
Volunteers will help prepare projects and organize other program activities to support staff at Temple Beth Shalom (460 Highland Ave.).
Circle of Hope
Wednesday, July 9th
9am - 12pm
Circle of Hope is a non-profit organization located in Needham that provides infants, children, and adults experiencing housing insecurity in the greater Boston area with necessities to preserve and enhance their overall dignity. Volunteers will help organize donated clothing and other materials to support Circle of Hope staff in their daily operations.
Needham Parks & Forestry
Monday, July 14th & July 21st
9am - 12pm
Volunteers will assist the Parks & Forestry Department with cleaning up and maintaining the Cricket Field (65 Hillside Ave.) on Monday July 14th and Riverside Park (Highview St.) on Monday July 21st.
Needham Community Council
Thursday, July 31st
9am - 12pm
Volunteers will learn about the mission and services provided by the Needham Community Council and assist with organizing, cleaning, and other projects and tasks needed to support Needham Community Council staff with their daily operations.
Needham Community Farm
Monday, August 4th & Wednesday, August 6th
9am - 12pm
Volunteers will learn about the mission of the Needham Community Farm along with the various crops that they grow, and will assist with various tasks such as weeding, harvesting, seeding, and assisting with maintaining the garden grounds.
Wingate Senior Living Community
(various evenings - see below)
Volunteers are invited to participate in several intergenerational social events being offered by Wingate Senior Living Community in Needham. These events include an Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, July 15th from 5pm - 8pm, a Tropical Party on Monday, July 28th from 2pm - 6pm, and a Ping-Pong, Pool & Poker Night on Tuesday, August 19th from 5:30pm - 9:30pm.
